Family Fun Day and Teddy Bear’s Picnic, September 2011

Fun Day

Thanks to all those who made Portobello Educate Together’s second Family Fun Day on Sept 11th such a great success despite the constant threat of rain! Over the course of the event we estimate up to 300 people came along and the whip-round raised 314 euro which will help us fund future events. Have a look at other photos here or on facebook.

Particular thanks are due to: the facepainters – Asumpta, Sarah, Fiona and Alex; Fay & Tom for organising games and Claphandies for supplying the equipment; Dermot aka ziggysmagicshow.com for the balloons and entertainment; Nicola for organising the information tent; Richard, Mary-Frances, Elaine, David and Seth for publicity, postering, putting up marquees etc; and of course Barnaby the bear. Thanks also to Savills for their sponsorship and the balloons; Dublin City Council for the use of the park & Greg the park warden for his help; the local community garda; and to Lucinda Creighton TD Minister of State for Europe, Cllrs Kieran Binchy, Mary Freehill, Ruairi McGinley, Rebecca Moynihan, Henry Upton and Cllr Edie Wynne for coming along to show their support.

Live Music Fundraiser, June 2011

Thanks to all those who came along to the first Portobello MDS live music benefit on Thursday June 16th. The music, courtesy of Sophie Coyle and Dermot & Cian of the Shamrogues was great, and thanks also to David Coyle who sang and Lia Byrne who joined the Shamrogues on the fiddle for a few impromptu numbers. Anyone who would like to see Sophie play again, check out www.myspace.com/sophiecoylefromgalway and for all you Shamrogues fans, they play in The Celt Pub on Talbot Street most Thursday nights.

 

Arts & Crafts Workshop for Children, April 2011

Thanks so much to Jessie Hamilton and her team of volunteers who put on such a successful arts & crafts event on April 17th. Adults and children alike enjoyed it, and we are sure that it will be the first of many.

Pub Quiz Fundraiser, March 2011

Well done and a big thank you to Dermot Stanley, Niamh Shine and others for organising this event. The first prize was hotly contested (and a big thanks to the first prize-winning team, who donated their 100 euro winnings back to the school!). It was a great success and raised over €1,2oo.

 

Children’s Parade & Petition event, November 2010

There were over 50 people at the event to hand in the petition to the Minister for Education & Skills. Thanks to all who turned up and all the public representativs who came along to show their support.

Family Fun Day, September 2010

Our first Family Fun Day and Teddy Bears’ Picnic was on Sunday September 12th in Harolds Cross Park. It was a great event, with over 150 adults, children and teddies enjoying the activities kindly organised by Liza Crotty of Claphandies, Dermot Stanley and Barnaby Taylor. Thanks also to Mary Upton TD; Cllr Ruairi McGinley (FG); Cllr Eric Byrne (Lab); Cllr Rebecca Moynihan (Lab); Cllr Henry Upton (Lab) for coming along to show their support.
